Yeah Shucks

I can't lie and say I'm happy with how today's stage went because I'm certainly disappointed. I don't really have a good explanation for what happened either. It could be any number of things, but the bottom line is that I simply didn't have it in the last 3km of the stage. It's horribly unsatisfying for me and definitely not how I hoped this race would go for me, but things don't always go to plan. It was a hard start today and then the pace never really relented. Combine that with the oppressive heat we've been experiencing, and it was another challenging day in the saddle. I felt quite tired from the beginning and was admittedly worried. I struggled and forced myself to eat but wanted to drink everything in sight. My legs slowly felt better throughout the day and I knew everyone else was suffering too, so I tried to be positive. When we hit the bottom of the last climb the team helped put me in the front of the field and I did all I could to stay there. I had moments of good legs, then moments of bad legs. I was a little concerned. At 5km to go though I actually started to feel good, so I gained some confidence. Then in a moment I came completely unglued and lost contact at 3km to go. I don't know what happened, but it wasn't good. I suffered to the finish and felt completely defeated. It was a hard day in the office, but I'm going to do my best to move on from this. I hope I can recover a little bit tomorrow and then go all in on Sunday's circuit. I know it will be tough and I would like to be up to the challenge. Appreciate you reading!
