Hey all, apologies on my tardiness. I'm sure everyone has seen the results from California for the final stages and the overall, so I don't have much else to report about that. Diablo was not quite as decisive as some thought it was going to be; nonetheless, it provided for a great day of cycling. The fans were great up on Diablo, and the climb was "fun" to ride. It had the epic climb feel to it, so that was especially fun. The last stage starting with the neutral roll out across the Golden Gate Bridge was a really neat stage, too. We finally got to see some of the beautiful areas/scenery that California is known for. When the dust finally settled after stage 8, I was left feeling mildly satisfied. If I look at my pre-season goals, placing 6th would make me satisfied; however, once I was in the mix for top 5 and even closer to the podium, it was really difficult to lose out on the opportunity to stand up there. Overall though, I have a positive feeling about the whole week of racing. Individually, I raced pretty smart and performed pretty well. As for the team, we raced well together, we made the race exciting, we won a stage, and the team vibe was great all week, so it was a fun week of racing, which in the end is the most important.
Post California, Lisa and I made our way back to Brevard and continued to work on settling into our house, while trying to recover and prepare of this upcoming weekend of the National Championships. Speaking of which, we are now in Chattanooga, TN! We chose to drive the scenic route through the mountains from Brevard this morning. After a few rewarding hours of driving that included the necessary road trip stop at McDonalds for Egg McMuffins, we arrived in time to preview the TT course, pick up race numbers, sort equipment, and get a general feeling for the area. The TT course looks good. It is a good mix of false flats and rolling hills, which will suit me better than a flat TT, so I am excited to give it a go tomorrow. After that, we'll look toward Monday's road race and my hopes of getting those stars and stripes back. Ciao!
