GP Camaiore Domani

Greetings and salutations followers, I'm writing from the city of Lido di Camaiore on the Mediterranean coast of Italy. I was up bright and early this morning to catch my flight from Girona to Pisa, arriving in Italy at 830 and to the hotel early enough to still catch breakfast! Now that I'm here, it feels almost like a normal day. I had a normal breakfast, went for an easy pre-race training, then took a nap, had massage (those two aren't the usual!), and I am now relaxing before dinner. My last few days in Girona were nice. It was cold but dry, so I was able to do quality training. Regarding the race tomorrow, it is a circuit race of sorts. We do two flatter laps, then five laps with a decent climb.

My goal of training today was actually to preview the hilly lap. It looks like the circuit will be pretty difficult, especially as we approach the final and do the climb for the 6th time with ~175km in our legs. It is a short climb of only 3km, but it is pretty steep and twisty, so splits are certain to happen and positioning will be key. Hopefully at that point of the race the field will already be reduced, so finding a good spot for the final ascent won't be so difficult. Nonetheless, the effort the last 2-3 times will definitely be hard with the last time certain to be gangbusters. The summit is only 10km from the finish with the rest being majority descent, so a well timed attack could stick. That's all the insight I can offer! I hope my efforts from the race in Oman will already begin to show in this race, so I can find myself in the final group. Check back for the post-race report!
