Yellow for Another Day
Giacomolo, as we might affectionately call him, kept his yellow for another day. The start was a dog fight as expected. With a time bonus sprint only 25km into the stage, it was inevitable. We kept our team together and rode a steady tempo to maintain control. In the bonus sprint, Giacomo took a valuable third to gain one second on the gc; although, a rival Gianni Meersman took first to gain time on Giacomo. After a hard first climb of the day, we still had to fight until finally a group of the right guys was able to go. From then on, we let the gap grow to 4 minutes, and Nelson and I rode tempo the rest of the day. After 170km, we were happy to have some sprinter's teams come help finish off the work, so they could contest the sprint. Tomorrow will be another long day for sure, but hopefully we can keep it!
