Bummin'

It is an unforgiving life in the peleton and today I was a victim again. Lacking the experience and confidence to mix it up with these guys as we rip through towns and down hills, through corners, etc. in preparation for a pivotal point in a race, is my biggest weakness. Today again I allowed myself to be in a horrible position out of "comfort", rather than get "mad" and get in there to make it with the leaders as I know I can. Today again I had good legs, but when I was last wheel going into the final climb, the writing was on the wall: grupetto for Matthew.
It makes me disappointed for sure, but I know that with time and experience this should come. It is still not a good feeling though knowing that you can be in the front group and instead you are in the last group. Oh well, I move on now. Tomorrow is the TT and then the weekend is the important time to be on my game. I will be there to help Jani, Haimar, and Tiago with the hopes and knowledge that each of them can be top 10 GC, no doubt. We have a strong team for sure and I want to be a part of that. I want my teammates to have confidence in me and believe I deserve to be there and that I can do the job. That is all for now.

Don't feel so bad, at least you're living the dream. I run into the same problem in Cat 4 races...just think how bad I feel, I really hate feeling weak.

Matthew,
Don't be too hard on yourself - just learn from today's experience and move on. I know you have what it takes to be there!! Steve W in Tucson

We learn more from our mistakes. You are smart enough to admit your "lessons". That is one of your gifts. Hang tough....it will pay off and I realize you already know that.

Every once in a while in life you have to take time out to look back...just to remind yourself how far you have come. Grasshopper, you have come very far in a short time. It'll never be good enough though...that's what makes competitive people tick. Remember-be a sponge...absorb...work hard...it will come. You're gonna go from bummin to stunnin in no time.
